Scuba diving Safaga is for more advanced divers. Not because dive sites are harder to dive, but they are not easy to reach. Spectacular dive sites can be found on a live aboard tour visiting one of the offshore reefs.
Tourism in Safaga hasn't really been able to catch up with its neighbor Hurghada in the north. It is mainly diving orientated and too much south for the big hordes of vacationers. Most dive sites in Safaga are shore dives and in stead of dive boats, there are four wheel drive cars that bring you to the right place. Pay attention to wind-driven waves which can complicate your entry
The climate is hotter the more south you go, with water temperatures in the range of 21 to 27 degrees. Temperatures at land can reach more than 45 degrees in summer and go as low as 20 in winter. Diving here is possible year around and well established by mainly German and Scandinavian divers. It is possible to hire good gear and day boats as well as live-aboards can easily be arranged. Pay attention though that it might take a few days between booking and actually leaving.
