Bluff Point is the northernmost dive site you can reach from Hurghada as well as from Sharm el-Sheik. Actually Bluff Point is the north eastern tip of Gubal Island at the beginning of the straits of Gubal. Its name is coming from the unpredictable winds and currents, often used by skippers to tell great stories.
North of Gubal Island is the interesting wreck the Ulysses, a 95 meters long British freighter from around 1887. Cables were part of her cargo when she hit the reef and sank and some of it can still be seen on the deck. Because of this it is often revered to as the Cable Wreck. Diving is often done by drifting from the north to the south along Gubal Island’s eastern wall. The southwest side of Gubal island has some sheltered bays and this is the place dive boats use to spend the night. Here you can do a night dive on two wrecks named the barge and the diving safari boat. The wooden barge has only become a dive location because of all the boats that moor here. All their garbage has attracted the many fish that live there now. Diving can get crowded in the morning and in the late afternoon, when all live-aboard cruises come together to do their dives.
The main reef has some steep walls with many cavelets, good coral and plenty of fish. You will see scorpion fish, napoleon fish, glassfish and turtles. Huge sea fans create an atmospheric scene while bottlenosed dolphins can be spotted as well.
