Daedalus reef or Abu el-Kizal is a small, almost circular reef, not more than 500 meter wide. It lies between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, in the center of the Red Sea. There is a small lighthouse, still manned by 4 persons, which is the only reference for miles. Boats often anchor at the south, which is about the only place to get shelter from the northern wind. A dingy can bring you to the north side, which is the most interesting part for divers.

It's a dive site with steep walls, except on the southern side where there is a plateau at 30 to 40 meters deep. Big currents and the exclusiveness make this a dive site with many fish and many different types of hard and soft coral. At the West side there is a city of anemones with its resident clown fishes, while the east wall is covered with caves and overhangs. The north is more famous because of its large pelagic fish, such as tuna, jacks, barracuda and hammerheads. Not uncommon as well as are thresher sharks and whale sharks. More you can see includes mantas, an occasional turtle, surgeonfish and unicorn fish.
