The most southern dive sites in Egypt, but some of the best scuba diving, consists of the vast reef system of Fury Shoals and St John's. Many reefs are situated here at this plateau located just north and south of point Ras Banas. John's reef is only 16 kilometers from the Sudanese border, the farthest and also one of the best reefs Egypt has to offer. Doing a dive here is currently only possible by live-aboard but definetely worth all the effort.
Water temperatures are 22 degrees in winter to 27 degrees in summer. The climate is hot and dry, with temperatures between 45 and 25 degrees. Diving can be done year around, with visibilities between 10 and 50 meters, depending on the place you visit and the wind conditions. This area is one of the best in Egypt with crystal clear waters, many fish including some uncommon fish species and beautiful colored coral.
