At the west of Tiran island is a small reef which is called Lagoona. It is famous for its amount of clown fish and anemones but also because of some historic event. The Cunard liner was fined by the Egyptian government at 20 million dollar when they destroyed part of this reef in April 1996. The reef is gradually recovering and best in its larger and more crowded southern part. Near the green southern beacon is also the best place for boats to shelter safely from winds. Diving here is often done from south to north as a drift dive.
It has many table coral, gorgonian fans, stony corals and fire corals in the north, but the main attraction are the clownfish and their anemones which inhabit every ten meters of the reef.
