This solitude reef can only be reached in calm weather and consists out of two coral pinnacles just reaching the surface. Between the pinnacles is a large plateau at an average depth of 12 meters which is generally sloping down to 18 meters before plummeting into the deep. From the boat moorings in the center of the plateau go east to one of the main pinnacles. After exploring it you can continue to the wall from where you head south and finally return to the boat mooring across the plateau. One other dive plan is to explore its very impressive northern wall, where the chances of spotting large pelagic such as tuna, sharks and barracuda are large.
The plateau is teeming with marine and coral life, nothing remembering of its crown of thorn starfish outbreak in late 1998. Careless Reef is famous for its amount of oversized moray eels which are often fed by dive masters. You can also see black fan coral, goldfish and gorgonians, some near the wall other on top of the plateau.
