The Israeli navy decided to place a huge four meter wide mooring buoy for cargo ships in the late seventies. But they made a huge mistake and placed it in water of 35 meters deep while the chain to the buoy was only 25 meters large. Now the buoy or sinker as well as the big chains and the massive concrete block have become a huge moving artificial reef. The chains are covered in soft corals all the way up to the buoy, while shoals of glassfish, fusiliers and damsel navigate around the buoy and are chased by bigger fish such as jacks. At the huge massive block at a depth of 35 meter are many lionfish to be found. The entrapped air under the block creates some kind of a mirror which reflects part of the chain.

There are a lot of thing to see which are also fabulous for photographers as it is a shallow dive with a lot of light. Be careful for the current as it can slap you into the buoy and its coral, which can have ugly scratches as a result. There is a small plateau reef to the north named House Reef which you can take a look at when finished, but more often this reef is dived at a second dive or in combination with dive site the Pipeline. The Sinker is a site that needs your time as there are so many small things to explore and to investigate.
