The many dive sites around Hurghada and El Gouna have made them popular towns for scuba diving enthusiasts. Dive schools pop up and close again so check the dive shop of your choice thoroughly for equipment and reputation.

Most tourists that go on a holiday will go to Hurghada or El Gouna. It is famous because of the many one week beach tourists lying in the sun spending their time reading and other in-house activities. However, Hurghada and El Gouna are cheap places for day dives and for getting your scuba license.

Climate and water temperatures are equal to those of Ras Mohammed at the other side of the Red Sea. Water temperature is nice at 20 degrees in winter (February) to 27 degrees in summer (early October). Remember that the Egyptian Climate is hot and dry, ranging from 40 degrees in summer to 20 in winter. Diving can be done year around, with visibilities between 10 and 50 meters, depending on the place you visit and the wind conditions. If you want to do some easy and quick dives or you prefer a holiday that combines beach, diving and nightlife, Hurghada and El Gouna are the places to go. Check Hurghada Hotels for more informations about accommodations in the area.

There are outside reefs that offer excellent diving such as the dive sites at Shaab Abu Nuhas, Abu Hashish and Abu Ramada. Some of them can eaily be reached but for others you will have to find boats that go to these places. For some real exploring try to visit remote areas in Egypt such as the offshore Marine Park Islands, Marsa Galeb or the Fury Shoal. Live-aboards to these places are easily found in Hurghada, but try to book ahead.

The dive on dive site Petra was long and extremely nice. We saw baby morays and kissing fish transferring food with one another. The owner of the dive shop, the big Russian, was our dive leader. He was making a lot of signals underwater and seemed like making whole conversations. He also made many pictures of his Russian comrades. A very nice dive.

Erg Talata was not one of the most impressive Erg's or coral heads I have seen here. We saw some fish but nothing spectacular. The cold current and warmes shallower areas were the most interesting sights on this dive.

Take a look at all the pictures!
