Eel Garden is reached by swimming over 100 meters of shallow reef. There you can enter a lagoon, which is not more that 1.5 meters wide at its narrowest part. The main attraction is the many eels that live in the sand outside the lagoon. They pop out of their homes to eat plankton and those long and small creatures create a landscape that resemble like grass sticking out of the sand. The current created by the narrow lagoon can make it very hard to reach the main reef.
Life is excellent here and photographers won’t have difficulties in finding their perfect object. Some of the reef fish that are very common are bannerfish, parrotfish, angelfish and batfish. You will see schools of anthias, morays, lionfish, unicorns, gobies, damsel and groupers. Stingrays hang out near the bottom and clams and pipefish are common as well. Coral is flourishing with some types of antler and plate coral, but also anemones and sponges. It is a great dive site, and although it is great to see the eels once this is not the place to stay your whole dive. Try to visit the other parts of the reef as well.
